Norse to face crucial matches this weekend

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will play host to a pair of key Great Lakes Valley Conference matches this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday contest against Saint Joseph’s College.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., NKU will face GLVC leader University of Indianapolis in Regents Hall. Indianapolis is 8-0 in the GLVC (17-7 overall) and in sole possession of first place in the league standings.

NKU enters this weekend with a 12-8 overall record. The Norse are 5-3 in the GLVC and tied with Saint Joseph’s for fourth place in the league standings.

The top six teams in the standings will advance to the GLVC Tournament Nov. 11-13. The No. 1 seed will play host to that event.

NKU is 24-5 all-time against Saint Joseph’s. The Norse own a 31-3 all-time record against Indianapolis.

A year ago, NKU swept two matches against Saint Joseph’s. The Norse split two meetings with Indianapolis last season, with each team winning at home.

Koralewski threw down a career-high 29 kills during a five-game win at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday. She also added 17 digs, four blocks and a .350 hitting percentage in that match.

The following afternoon, Koralewski had 18 kills and 24 digs as NKU defeated Quincy in three games. She also hit .405 (just three errors in 37 attempts) as the Norse completed the road sweep.

Koralewski leads the GLVC in both kills (4.63 kpg) and hitting percentage (.379). She enters Friday with 1,264 career kills, which ranks seventh in Norse history.

Koralewski also has 1,060 career digs and is eighth on NKU’s all-time list in that category.

NKU setter Andrea Lanham is second in the GLVC in assists (12.44 apg). She enters Friday with 1,570 career assists with the Norse.

As a team, NKU ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in kills per game at 15.67.
