NKU WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE GLVC TITLE

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Sophomore Jamie O’Hara completed an unbeaten fall season at No. 1 singles Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University women’s tennis team captured its second consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference championship with a 5-2 victory over Southern Illinois at Edwardsville in the championship match of the GLVC Tournament.

O’Hara, who is expected to earn her second straight GLVC Player of the Year honor, defeated SIUE’s Sarah Hardimon, 6-0, 6-4 to finish with a 12-0 record during the fall. O’Hara has never lost a match to a GLVC opponent.

NKU trailed 2-1 after dropping two of the three doubles matches on Saturday, but O’Hara, Lauren Spears, Joceline McQueen and Amity Chapman all posted wins in singles. The Norse successfully defended their GLVC championship and became just the fifth NKU program - along with women’s basketball, men’s soccer, men’s tennis and volleyball - to ever win back-to-back GLVC titles.

NKU finished the fall with a 13-1 record, and SIUE dropped to 10-3. NKU will also compete during the spring in an attempt to earn a second straight NCAA Division II Tournament berth.
