NKU TO HOST SAGINAW VALLEY STATE ON SUNDAY

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will play host to Saginaw Valley State University at 12:30 p.m. this Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU enters that match with a 16-2 record, and the Norse are ranked No. 11 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. NKU needs just one victory to surpass last year’s single-season school-record of 16 wins. In its three years as a varsity program, the NKU women’s soccer team has posted records of 7-11 (1997), 16-3-3 (1998), and the current mark of 16-2.

NKU head coach Bob Sheehan now owns a record of 39-16-3 in three seasons with the Norse.

Sophomore forward Betsy Moore continues to lead the Great Lakes Valley Conference in scoring with 18 goals and 10 assists. Moore had a school-record four assists during an 11-0 win at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne last Saturday.

Sophomore midfielder Tricia Ruark has 13 goals and seven assists to rank No. 2 on the team in scoring. Freshman forward Kristen Noakes has scored nine goals and also has eight assists for the Norse. Sophomore Lori Kevill, who scored two goals in matches against both Bellarmine and IPFW last week, has a total of five goals this season.

Sophomore goalie Lauren Piening has 11 shutouts this season to go along with a 0.60 goals against average.

NKU TO HOST UMSL: NKU will meet the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3 in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament, and UMSL is seeded seventh. During the regular season, NKU posted a 3-1 win against UMSL at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

The winner of the Nov. 3 match will advance to Edwardsville, Ill., for the GLVC semifinals on Nov. 6. Southern Illinois at Edwardsville is the No. 1 seed and host for the GLVC Tournament.
