NKU DEFEATS NORTH DAKOTA STATE, 1-0

Norse (21-2) knock off NDSU in NCAA 1st round

 

WILDER, Ky. - Lisa Geiman’s goal late in the first half Saturday afternoon gave the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over North Dakota State University in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

NKU, in just its third season of competing as a varsity program in women’s soccer,improved to 21-2 with the victory and advances to next week’s NCAA quarterfinals against the winner of the Ashland University/Mercyhurst College match. NDSU finished the season 14-3-2.

Geiman’s goal came at the 39:01 mark off a rebound shot. Sophomore goalie Lauren Piening recorded her 16th shutout of the season for NKU.

NKU outshot NDSU, 23-3, and the Norse defense extended its streak of scoreless matches to eight. NKU has not allowed a goal since Oct. 16 during a 3-1 win over Missouri-Rolla.
