NKU TO MEET USI IN GLVC SEMIFINALS
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team will play the University of Southern Indiana in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament this Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST) at Edwardsville, Ill.
NKU defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 2-0, on Wednesday in the first round to advance, and Southern Indiana posted a 2-0 victory against Wisconsin-Parkside in another first-round contest.
Megan Russell and Stephanie Minor both scored goals to lead USI, which is now 10-6-1. The Lady Eagles already own a 2-0 win against NKU earlier this season. Minor and Kelly Lewis both scored goals in the final seven minutes of regulation to give USI the victory against the Norse in a match played at Evansville, Ind., on Oct. 8.
In the other GLVC semifinal on Saturday, No. 1 seed Southern Illinois at Edwardsville will face Indianapolis at 1 p.m. Indianapolis, the No. 4 seed in the GLVC, knocked off No. 5 seed Saint Josephs, 1-0, on Wednesday to advance.
The GLVC championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday. Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced on Monday.
NKU is currently ranked No. 1 in the Central Region rankings, and the top two teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. Saint Josephs was No. 2 in the rankings prior to its loss to Indianapolis on Wednesday.
