NKU POSTS 3-0 WIN OVER SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
WILDER, Ky. - Lindsay Smith, Lisa Geiman and Tricia Ruark all scored goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Saginaw Valley State, 3-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Smith gave NKU a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the match with an unassisted goal. Geiman added a goal off an assist from Lori Kevill early in the second half, and Ruark sealed the victory by adding a score with two minutes remaining.
Goalie Lauren Piening recorded the shutout and had two saves for the Norse, who are ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
NKU improved to 17-2 overall with the victory and in the process broke the school record for wins in a season (16 was the previous record in 1998).
The Norse will play host to a first-round Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament match at 1 p.m. this Wednesday against seventh-seeded Missouri-St. Louis at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU, the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, posted a 3-1 win against UMSL earlier this season.
The winner will advance to the GLVC semifinals at Edwardsville, Ill. The NKU/UMSL winner will take on the Southern Indiana/Wisconsin-Parkside winner next Saturday at Edwardsville, Ill.
