SIUE HANDS NORSE SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS, 3-1

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Leslie Henigman scored a pair of goals Saturday night as Southern Illinois at Edwardsville defeated Northern Kentucky University, 3-1.

SIUE improved to 8-3 overall, 7-0 in the GLVC, and the Cougars handed NKU its second consecutive defeat. The Norse (12-2, 6-2 GLVC) entered this weekend unbeaten and ranked No. 3 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, but losses to Southern Indiana (2-0 on Friday) and SIUE ended NKU’s hopes for a perfect season.

Colleen Creamer opened the scoring for SIUE on Saturday with an unassisted goal late in the first half. Henigman scored four minutes into the second half to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead, but NKU’s Kristen Noakes scored a goal off an assist from Betsy Moore to cut the deficit to 2-1 with nearly 30 minutes remaining.

Henigman sealed the win for SIUE with a goal off an assist from Marci Stedman at the 69:31 mark.

NKU will play host to Missouri-Rolla at noon next Saturday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
