Norse (5-0) set school record for goals in victory at WJU

WHEELING, W. Va. - Tricia Ruark scored four goals Sunday as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated Wheeling Jesuit University, 12-0.

Ruark’s four goals tied the NKU single-game record, which was set last season by Betsy Moore against Mercyhurst (Pa.). A graduate of Seton High School in Cincinnati, Ruark also added an assist to tie Moore’s NKU record of nine points in a single contest.

Ruark’s performance enabled the Norse (5-0) to score a school-record 12 goals. The previous record was 11, set during an 11-0 win over Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne on Oct. 23, 1999.

Jeanna Martin and Kristen Noakes both added two goals for NKU, ranked No. 2 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. The Norse built a 4-0 halftime lead Sunday as Ruark, Martin, Moore and Bessie Black scored goals.

Noakes, Ruark and Martin all scored goals during the first 22 minutes of the second half as NKU increased its lead to 7-0. Jessica Jenson and Megan Zalla combined for the shutout and had two saves.

NKU is now 19-0-2 during its last 21 regular-season matches. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000.
