Black scores two goals as No. 1 NKU defeats Saint Josephs |

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Bessie Black scored two goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Saint Josephs College, 3-0. Lori Kevill also added a goal as NKU improved to 10-0 overall, 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. Black, the GLVCs leading scorer with 13 goals and 11 assists, gave NKU a 1-0 lead at the 19:56 mark with a goal that was assisted by Tricia Ruark. Kevill upped the Norses lead to 2-0 three minutes later with a goal off an assist from Jeanna Martin. Black sealed the victory for NKU at the 63:14 mark with a goal that was assisted by Betsy Moore. NKU goalie Megan Zalla recorded the shutout and had two saves. The Norse are 24-0-2 during their last 26 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. NKU will travel to Kenosha, Wis., on Friday for a 2:15 p.m. match against unbeaten and 18th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside. |
