No. 1 Norse hand Indianapolis its first loss of season |

WILDER, Ky. - Jeanna Martin and Betsy Moore both scored goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 2-1, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU, now 8-0 overall, 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, is also ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Indianapolis dropped to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC. Martin gave NKU a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the match with a goal that was assisted by Bessie Black. The Norse took a 2-0 lead at the 84:15 mark when Betsy Moore took a pass from Amanda Trout and beat Indianapolis goalie Kyle Race for a score. Indianapolis cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 87:34 mark when Laura Gregory scored on a penalty kick, but NKU held off the Greyhounds and now own a 5-0-1 all-time record against Indianapolis. The Norse are 22-0-2 during their last 24 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. |
