Norse jump to No. 1 for first time in history |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team is ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll for the first time in the programs history. NKU, now 7-0 and previously No. 2 in the national poll, jumped to No. 1 after the University of California at San Diego lost at San Francisco State last Friday. The Norse are 21-0-2 during their last 23 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. NKU has fielded a varsity womens soccer program since the 1997 season, and the Norse own three straight Great Lakes Valley Conference championships. NKU has also advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four the past two years, and the Norse finished as NCAA Division II national runner-up last season. UC San Diego defeated NKU, 2-1, in last years national championship match at Miami Shores, Fla.
