No. 1 Norse improve to 16-0 with road win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Lori Kevill, Jill Johannigman and Bessie Black all scored goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 3-0.

Kevill and Johannigman scored goals late in the first half as NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - improved to 16-0 overall, 10-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Black, who leads the GLVC in scoring with 18 goals and 13 assists, added her goal early in the second half off an assist from Betsy Moore.

NKU held a 31-3 advantage in shot attempts and finished with a perfect record in the GLVC for the first time in history.

The Norse will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament and host the GLVC semifinals and finals Nov. 3-4 at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. NKU will play Nov. 3 against the winner of the University of Indianapolis/Saint Joseph’s College match, which will be played at Indianapolis on Oct. 31.

The Norse are 30-0-2 during their last 32 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000.

The Norse will return home next weekend to wrap up the regular season with matches against Gannon (Pa.) University (Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (Pa.) College (Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.).
