NKU can wrap up No. 1 seed in GLVC Tournament on Sunday |

WILDER, Ky. - Kristen Noakes scored a goal with two minutes remaining in regulation Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Saint Josephs College, 1-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Noakes shot came from directly in front of the goal and was assisted by both Denise Kunz and Tricia Ruark. NKU - which outshot Saint Josephs by a 23-2 margin - improved to 13-1-2 overall, 8-0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU is tied with Southern Illinois at Edwardsville (8-0-2) for first place in the league standings, but if the Norse defeat Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne at 3 p.m. on Sunday, they will earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament. NKU holds the tie-breaker with SIUE because of its win over Southern Indiana. The No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament receives a first-round bye and is the host for the semifinals and finals. NKU is now ranked No. 12 nationally in the Division II poll. NKU 1, SJC 0 GOALS: NKU-Noakes. SHUTOUT: Piening (0 saves). RECORDS: NKU 13-1-2, 8-0-2 GLVC; SJC 7-9, 6-4 GLVC. |
