No. 1 Norse clinch top seed in GLVC Tournament |

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Tricia Ruark scored a goal and added an assist Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-1. Jeanna Martin added a pair of assists as NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - improved to 15-0 overall, 9-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse also clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament with the victory and will host the GLVC semifinals and finals Nov. 3-4 at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Amanda Trout gave NKU a 1-0 lead early in the first half by knocking in a shot off a direct kick from Ruark. The Norse increased the advantage to 2-0 eight minutes later when Ruark found the net with a goal that was assisted by Eva Broeg and Martin. After Missouri-St. Louis cut the lead to 2-1 late in the second half, Jill Johannigman sealed the win for NKU with a goal that was assisted by Martin and Betsy Moore. Martin took a pass from Moore and sent the ball into the box, where Johannigman finished the play with a score at the 81:01 mark. The Norse are 29-0-2 during their last 31 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. NKU will conclude its road trip at 1 p.m. Sunday with a match at the University of Southern Indiana. The Norse will return home next weekend to wrap up the regular season with matches against Gannon (Pa.) University (Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (Pa.) College (Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.).
