LEWIS TIES NKU WITH LATE GOAL

NKU now 12-1-2 after playing to 1-1 tie

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University’s Lily Alcala scored a goal at the 83:09 mark Sunday afternoon to send the match into overtime as the Flyers played the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team to a 1-1 tie.

NKU (12-1-2 overall, 7-0-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) took a 1-0 lead near the end of the first half when Bessie Black beat Lewis goalie Jenny Bourn for a goal. The score remained 1-0 until the 83:09 mark, when Alcala found the net with an unassisted goal.

NKU had an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the GLVC standings with a win on Sunday due to Southern Illinois at Edwardsville’s 2-2 tie at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night. As a result of the tie with Lewis (5-7-3, 1-6-2 GLVC), however, NKU remains deadlocked with SIUE for first place in the GLVC standings with identical 7-0-2 records.

NKU will play host to Saint Joseph’s College at 8 p.m. this Friday at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
