NKU DEFEATS INDIANAPOLIS, 2-1

Norse improve to 11-3 overall, 8-1 GLVC

INDIANAPOLIS - Kristen Votapek’s goal early in the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over the University of Indianapolis on Friday.

With the score tied at 1-1, NKU’s Michelle Kelly played the ball through to Votapek for a breakaway opportunity. Votapek took the pass and beat Indianapolis goalie Kyle Race with a shot that gave the Norse a 2-1 lead at the 48:57 mark.

It was the sixth goal of the season for Votapek, a junior forward and a graduate of Amelia High School.

The NKU defense made the score stand, and the Norse improved to 11-3 overall, 8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU is ranked 23rd nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll.

Indianapolis (6-7-1 overall, 3-4-1 GLVC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 36:16 mark when Laura Marcon beat NKU goalie Lauren Piening for a score. The Norse tied the contest at the 41:10 mark when Amy Martini took a pass from Laura Monterosso off a throw in and scored her first goal of the season on a half volley.

NKU, which extended its win streak to five, owns a 10-0-1 lead in the all-time series with Indianapolis. The Norse will play host to Lewis University on Oct. 23 in the home finale.
