NKU DEFEATS SIUE, 4-0

No. 1 Norse equal best start (13-0) in school history

WILDER, Ky. - Betsy Moore scored a goal and had two assists Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 4-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Stephanie Sandfoss, Hope Bushelman and Eva Broeg also scored goals as NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - equaled its best-ever start by improving to 13-0 overall, 7-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU also started 13-0 in 1999 before losing on the road to both Southern Indiana and SIUE.

SIUE dropped to 9-2-1 overall, 4-2-1 in the GLVC. Prior to Friday, NKU had never beaten SIUE during the regular season (0-3-1 against SIUE in the regular season before Friday’s win). The Norse, however, did own two victories against the Cougars in the GLVC Tournament in 1998 and ’99.

The Norse are 27-0-2 during their last 29 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000.
