Norse defeat UW-Parkside, 6-0, in GLVC championship match

WILDER, Ky. - Tricia Ruark scored two goals and recorded three assists Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 6-0, in the championship match of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Kendra Zinser also scored a pair of goals as NKU captured its fourth consecutive GLVC title and improved to 19-1. The Norse, ranked No. 4 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, have never lost (10-0) in the GLVC Tournament.

Ruark gave NKU a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the match with a goal that was assisted by Jeanna Martin. Zinser extended NKU’s advantage to 2-0 at the 24:33 mark with a goal that was assisted by Ruark. Bessie Black made it 3-0 at the 39:20 mark by taking a pass from Ruark and beating Wisconsin-Parkside goalie Abbigale Wild for a score.

NKU will be the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region and play a first-round match at No. 2 seed Ashland University (16-0-1) this Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Ashland, Ohio.

Mercyhurst (Pa.) College (15-2-1), the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Region, will play host to the NKU/Ashland winner at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 11).
