WILDER, Ky. - Betsy Moores goal with seven minutes remaining in regulation Saturday afternoon broke a scoreless tie and gave the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team a 1-0 win over Mercyhurst (Pa.) College in the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU, now 20-1-2 and ranked No. 4 nationally in the Division II poll, advances to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the second consecutive season. With less than eight minutes left Saturday, NKUs Jeanna Martin took a pass and crossed to a wide open Moore, who knocked in the winning goal. Earlier this season during a 6-2 win over Mercyhurst, Moore had scored a school-record four goals against the Lakers (14-3-3). Norse goalie Lauren Piening recorded the shutout and had two saves, including a clutch save while the match was scoreless. |
