HANCK EARNS GLVC HONOR

NKU sophomore named GLVC co-Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Katie Hanck has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Hanck, a sophomore and a graduate of Fairfield (Ohio) High School, scored two goals and added an assist during NKU’s 7-1 win at Lewis University on Saturday. Hanck shared the weekly GLVC honor with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Sara Beebe.

This marks the second time this season that Hanck has been honored by the GLVC. For the season, she has six goals and five assists.

NKU (13-2-2 overall, 9-0-1 GLVC) will play a non-conference match at 4 p.m. this Friday against Wheeling Jesuit University at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. That will also be Senior Day for NKU soccer players Kendra Zinser, Kristin Polosky, Megan Zalla, Becky Schnieders and Aisling Callaghan.

NKU will begin GLVC Tournament play at 1 p.m. this Sunday with a first-round contest against No. 8 seed Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The Norse are the top seed in the GLVC and are 49-0-5 against league opponents during the past four years.

The semifinals are set for Nov. 7, and the championship match will be played Nov. 9. If NKU defeats SIUE in the first round, the Norse will play host to the semifinals and championship.

The Norse are seeking their sixth straight GLVC Tournament championship. NKU has never lost (13-0 all-time) in the GLVC Tournament.

NKU is currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll. The top four teams in those rankings will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament in November.

Grand Valley State University, which owns a 1-0 win over NKU this season, is ranked No. 1 in the regional poll.
