HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team is ranked No. 3 nationally in the NCAA Division II preseason poll.
NKU, which posted a 20-1-2 record last season, advanced to the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals in 2002. The Norse return seven starters, including All-Great Lakes Valley Conference defenders Becky Schnieders and Robyn Withers.
Defending NCAA Division II national champion Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University is ranked No. 1 in the poll, followed by the University of Nebraska at Omaha. NKU will meet Christian Brothers on Sept. 5 at Memphis, Tenn.
A year ago, NKU posted a 1-0 decision over Christian Brothers and jumped to No. 1 in the national poll. The Norse remained No. 1 for the rest of the regular season.
NKU will begin the season Aug. 29 with a 4:30 p.m. match against Saginaw Valley State University at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
