NKU FAVORED IN GLVC POLL

Norse picked to win sixth straight GLVC title

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Five-time defending champion Northern Kentucky University has been tabbed the favorite by Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s soccer coaches in the 2003 preseason poll, which was released Thursday.

NKU, which posted a 20-1-2 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II national quarterfinals, received 10 first-place votes and totaled 100 points in the poll. The Norse, who have not lost to a GLVC opponent since 1999, enter 2003 with five consecutive GLVC championships.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis received 87 total points and is picked to finish second in the poll. The Riverwomen finished with a 13-7-1 record a year ago and advanced to the GLVC championship match, where they dropped a 1-0 decision to NKU.

Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville is picked third in the preseason poll. The Cougars, who finished 9-5-4 last season, received 78 total points. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (10-2-3 last year) rounds out the top four teams in the poll after receiving 76 total points.
