UMR rallies from 2-0 deficit to stun nationally ranked Norse


ROLLA, Mo. - Denise McMillan scored three goals Sunday afternoon as the University of Missouri-Rolla upset the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team, 5-3.

NKU, ranked No. 4 nationally in the Division II preseason poll, jumped out to a 2-0 lead Sunday on goals by Denise Kunz and Kendra Zinser in the first nine minutes of the match. McMillan, however, scored a pair of goals to tie the match at 2-2, and Lizz Szkrybalo gave the Lady Miners a 3-2 lead before halftime on a penalty kick.

NKU tied the match at 3-3 when Tricia Ruark scored on a penalty kick at the 68:34 mark, but McMillan responded with a goal off an assist from Kacey Morris at the 73:56 mark to give UMR a 4-3 lead. Tara Hammond iced the match for UMR with a goal at the 81:45 mark.

NKU dropped to 1-1 with the loss, and UMR improved to 1-1. The Norse will return to action this Friday night at 8 p.m. with a match against the University of Nebraska-Omaha at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
