NORSE DEFEAT MINNESOTA STATE, 7-1
No. 4 NKU opens season with victory on Saturday
ROLLA, Mo. - Tricia Ruark and Bessie Black scored two goals apiece Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Minnesota State University, 7-1, in its season opener.
NKU began the scoring five minutes into the match when Amanda Trout headed in a ball off a rebound. Black scored the first of her two goals nine minutes later off an assist from Betsy Moore, and Ruark made it 3-0 at the 15:27 mark with an unassisted goal.
Black - playing in her first match for NKU - scored another goal at the 34:03 mark of the first half to give the Norse a 4-0 lead, and NKU coasted past Minnesota State in the second half.
Lori Kevill added two assists for NKU, which is ranked No. 4 nationally in the Division II preseason poll. Kristen Noakes and Kendra Zinser also had goals for the Norse.
NKU will play Missouri-Rolla at noon on Sunday.
