Black scores three goals as Norse begin season with a victory |

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Bessie Black scored three goals Friday as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team opened the season with a 10-0 win over Northwood (Mich.) University. Black also added three assists for NKU, which is ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Kristen Noakes scored a pair of goals and added an assist for NKU, which recorded its largest margin of victory since an 11-0 win over Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne on Oct. 23, 1999. NKU built a 4-0 halftime lead as Black scored two goals in the first 28 minutes. The Norse added six goals in the second half and finished with a 21-5 advantage in shots attempted. Senior All-American Tricia Ruark added a pair of assists, and Stephanie Sandfoss had a goal and two assists in her NKU debut. Freshman Robyn Withers also had two assists for the Norse. NKU will meet Saginaw Valley State University at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to conclude its Michigan road trip. |
