Norse advance to Community Recorder Classic finals |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Junior forward Michelle Cottrell scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Carson-Newman College, 93-65, in the first round of the inaugural Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall. Senior guard Michele Tuchfarber added 20 points for NKU, which improved to 3-0. NKU, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, has now won 27 consecutive games dating back to last season. The Norse have not lost since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 win against NKU in Regents Hall. NKU limited Carson-Newman (0-4) to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half to coast to the win. The Norse advance to Sundays 3:30 p.m. tournament championship game against Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University - which posted a 67-64 win over Northwood (Mich.) University in the other first-round game Saturday. NKU is ranked No. 1 nationally in the Division II poll. |
