NKU POSTS 81-66 WIN OVER FINDLAY

Snardon gets double-double as 10th-ranked Norse win home opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sharell Snardon scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Tuesday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Findlay, 81-66, in Regents Hall.

Elizabeth Burrows added 14 points and nine assists as NKU, ranked No. 10 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, handed Findlay (3-1) its first loss of the season. NKU jumped out to a 16-2 lead during the first five minutes as Snardon scored six points.

Karyn Creager capped a 12-5 Norse run with a three-pointer to give NKU a 28-9 advantage with 8:36 remaining before halftime. NKU made 66.7 percent of its shots from the field in the first half and held a 47-24 lead at the break.

Findlay rallied in the second half and used a 29-14 run to slice the deficit to 69-57 with 5:33 remaining. The Norse responded with a 9-2 run to extend the lead to back to 78-59 as Karmen Graham scored four points.

Creager and Graham each added 11 points for NKU, which shot 61.2 percent from the field and made 78.9 percent of its free throws. The Norse (2-1) won the rebounding battle by a 36-22 margin.

Zsofia Horvath led Findlay with 19 points, and Michelle Vorst added 11 points. NKU, however, limited Findlay to just 37.7 percent shooting from the field.

Snardon added two blocked shots for NKU, which now leads the all-time series with Findlay, 2-0. Snardon has scored in double figures in 13 straight games dating back to last season, and it was her eighth career double-double.

NKU will begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend when the University of Missouri-St. Louis visits Regents Hall at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Norse will also play host to Quincy University at 5:30 p.m. next Monday (Dec. 1).
