KENOSHA, Wis. - Michelle Cottrell scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half Monday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 64-60, at De Simone Gymnasium. Bridget Flanagan added 14 points as NKU improved to 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Suzie Smith - who missed most of the second half with an ankle injury - made a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory for the Norse, who are now 14-0 all-time against Wisconsin-Parkside. Cottrell now has 1,775 career points, and she needs just 109 points to pass Peggy Vincent (1,883 points) and become NKUs all-time career scoring leader. NKU shot 56.1 percent from the field, and the Norse made 7 of 11 three-point shots. Flanagan made 4 of 6 three-point attempts for NKU. Head coach Nancy Winstel now has 390 victories at NKU. She is looking to become the first basketball coach in Norse history to reach the 400-win plateau. |
