NKU WINS AVALON CLASSIC OVER GANNON

Cottrell named tournament MVP

ERIE, Pa. - Junior forward Michelle Cottrell scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Gannon (Pa.) University, 84-69, in the championship game of the Avalon Classic. Cottrell earned tournament most valuable player honors as NKU improved to 2-0. Michele Tuchfarber (21 points) and Heather Livingstone (19 points) also earned All-Tournament honors. Senior Julie Cowens added 11 points for the Norse. NKU will return home this Saturday to host the inaugural Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall. The Norse will play Carson-Newman College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the first round. Northwood (Mich.) University will meet Christian Brothers (Tenn.) in the other first-round game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
