NKU TO FACE NO. 1 ST. ROSE AT ELITE 8

No. 2 NKU to battle nation’s No. 1 team at Pine Bluff, Ark.

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will face the nation’s top-ranked NCAA Division II squad, the College of St. Rose (N.Y.), in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight at Pine Bluff, Ark., on March 22 at 9:30 p.m. (EST).

NKU is 29-2 after defeating Northern Michigan University, 77-70, in the championship game of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament in Regents Hall on Saturday. St. Rose is now 34-0 after knocking off Bentley (Mass.), 82-72, for the Northeast Region title on Sunday.

NKU is ranked No. 2 nationally in the Division II poll, and the Norse have a 21-game winning streak going into the Elite Eight. NKU and St. Rose have never met in women’s basketball.

The NKU/St. Rose winner will advance to the national semifinals at 9 p.m. (EST) on March 23 against the winner of the Western Washington/Slippery Rock (Pa.) game.

The NCAA Division II national championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (EST) on March 25. All games in the Elite Eight will be played in the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
