HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bridget Flanagan scored 22 points Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Lewis University, 80-67, in Regents Hall. Connie Myers recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds for NKU, which improved to 9-3 overall, 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll. Lewis (7-7 overall, 3-4 GLVC) held a 47-35 lead early in the second half after a layup by Kari Wong. NKU, however, used a 15-2 run to rally past Lewis for a 50-49 advantage. Amy Mobley hit a pair of three-pointers to start the NKU run, and Kristin Polosky - who finished with 16 points - scored seven during the spurt. After Lewis regained the lead at 53-51, NKU used a 19-7 run to build a 70-60 advantage and never trailed again. NKU shot 56 percent from the field during the second half, and the Norse connected on 6 of 10 attempts from three-point range after intermission. NKU won the rebounding battle by a 42-34 margin and held Lewis to just 22.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half. NKU is now 17-1 against the Flyers in Regents Hall and have defeated Lewis nine consecutive times dating back to the 1997-98 season. NKU leads the all-time series with Lewis, 32-3. Flanagan now has 991 career points, and she is trying to become the second NKU player to enter the 1,000-point club this season. Mobley scored her 1,000th career point on Dec. 30 during a victory against Wayne (Mich.) State University. NKU will play host to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Regents Hall. |
