Norse improve to 9-2 with road victory |

QUINCY, Ill. - Michelle Cottrell scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Quincy University, 60-53, at the Pepsi Arena. Kristin Polosky added 14 points for the Norse, who improved to 9-2 overall and snapped a two-game losing streak. NKU is unbeaten (6-0) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA II Great Lakes Region ratings. Dana Schubeler scored 13 points and finished with six rebounds for the Norse, who shot 46.8 percent from the field. NKU limited Quincy (7-5, 3-3 GLVC) to 31 percent shooting from the field and avenged last seasons 72-69 loss to the Hawks at Pepsi Arena. NKU built a 31-18 halftime lead by shooting 59.1 percent from the field. The Norse also shut down the Quincy offense by holding the Hawks to just 22.2 percent shooting from the field in the first half. The victory was the 396th for NKU head coach Nancy Winstel, who is looking to become the first basketball coach in Norse history to reach the 400-win plateau. NKU will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. |
