QUINCY, Ill. - Jill Unnerstall and Tiffany Kelver both hit two free throws in the final 40 seconds Thursday night as the Quincy (Ill.) University womens basketball team upset Northern Kentucky University, 72-69. Unnerstall made a pair of free throws with 40 seconds remaining in the game to give Quincy a 70-69 lead. After NKUs Bridget Flanagan missed a three-point shot, Kelver was fouled and made two free throws to give Quincy a 72-69 advantage. NKU had two chances to tie the game in the final 10 seconds, but both attempts missed and Quincy (10-6, 6-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) defeated the Norse for the first time in history. Prior to Thursday, NKU owned a 9-0 lead in the all-time series against Quincy. NKU - ranked No. 4 nationally in the Division II poll - dropped to 14-2 overall, 8-2 in the GLVC. The Norse built a 40-33 halftime lead Thursday, but Quincy limited the Norse to just 31 percent shooting from the field in the second half and made 52.4 percent of its own attempts. The Lady Hawks also connected on 28 of 36 free throw attempts. Michelle Cottrell led NKU with 24 points and 13 rebounds. She also moved into fourth place on the NKU all-time scoring list with 1,484 career points. NKU will play at the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2 p.m. Saturday.
