HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Michelle Cottrell scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Bellarmine University, 88-79, in Regents Hall. Bridget Flanagan added 16 points as NKU improved to 13-1 overall, 7-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Bellarmine entered Thursday with a nine-game winning streak, and the Knights were alone in first place in the GLVC. Bellarmine (12-2, 7-1 GLVC), however, could not stop NKUs offensive attack and allowed the Norse to make 60 percent of their shots from the field. Cottrell, who recorded her third straight double-double, had 12 points in the first half as NKU built a 47-34 lead. The Norse, ranked No. 5 nationally in the Division II poll, also made 8 of 12 three-point shots in the first half and held 19th-ranked Bellarmine to 44.8 percent shooting from the field. NKU led by as many as 17 points in the second half and coasted to the win. NKU extended its home winning streak to 20 consecutive games with the victory Thursday night. The Norse have not lost in Regents Hall since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 victory over NKU. NKU is now 52-4 in its last 56 games against GLVC opponents after Thursdays victory. The Norse will also play host to Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Regents Hall.
