NKU POSTS 69-48 WIN OVER SIUE

Flanagan scores 1,000th career point as Norse roll

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Amy Mobley scored 26 points, grabbed six rebounds and added five assists Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 69-48, in Regents Hall.

Bridget Flanagan added 16 points - including her 1,000th career point - as NKU improved to 10-3 overall, 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse held SIUE (6-7 overall, 3-4 GLVC) to just 38 percent shooting from the field and won the rebounding battle by a 42-24 margin.

NKU built a 35-27 halftime lead as Mobley scored 14 points and Kristin Polosky added eight points. Flanagan hit four three-point shots Saturday, and she became the 20th member of the NKU 1,000-point club when she connected on a three-pointer early in the second half.

Flanagan, a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, now has 1,007 career points with the Norse. Earlier this season, Mobley also joined the 1,000-point club during a 96-64 win over Wayne (Mich.) State University.

Polosky finished with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists for NKU, which is ranked No. 23 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Norse are ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll.

Ruth Kipping - who entered the game averaging 22.8 ppg - led SIUE with 12 points. The Cougars hit just 7 of 25 shots from the field in the second half.

NKU now owns eight consecutive wins against SIUE and leads the all-time series, 14-6. SIUE’s last win against NKU came on Dec. 5 1998, when the Cougars pulled out a 62-61 victory at Edwardsville, Ill.

NKU remained unbeaten at home this season (7-0), and the Norse are 33-2 in Regents Hall during the past three years.

NKU will hit the road for a game at the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday.
