NKU DEFEATS IPFW, 80-65

Cottrell gets double-double as Norse improve to 11-1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Michelle Cottrell scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, 80-65, at the Gates Sports Center.

Amy Mobley added 16 points and seven rebounds for NKU, which improved to 11-1 overall, 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse, ranked No. 5 nationally in the Division II poll, are now 50-4 in their last 54 games against GLVC opponents.

NKU jumped out to an 11-0 lead Thursday and coasted past IPFW (10-3, 3-3 GLVC). Cottrell, a graduate of Boone County High School, has now scored 1,404 career points and moved up to No. 6 on the Norse all-time scoring list.

NKU senior guard Michele Tuchfarber, who averages 12.9 points per game, missed Thursday’s contest against IPFW due to a sprained ankle. Bridget Flanagan, who started in place of Tuchfarber, added 14 points for NKU. Julie Cowens scored 14 points and had eight rebounds for the Norse.

NKU has now beaten IPFW nine consecutive times. The Norse have not lost to IPFW since the 1996-97 season, when the Mastodons posted an 83-74 victory over NKU at Fort Wayne, Ind.

NKU will visit Rensselaer, Ind., on Saturday to meet Saint Joseph’s College. The Norse own 12 consecutive victories over Saint Joseph’s going into Saturday's game.
