HAILEY SIGNS WITH NKU

Norse women add former prep standout from Cincinnati

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Quanita Hailey, a former prep standout at Colerain High School, has signed to attend Northern Kentucky University and play women’s basketball for the Norse this season.

Hailey, a 6-foot forward, averaged 16.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for Colerain as a senior during the 2000-01 season. She earned first team All-Greater Miami Conference honors and was later named to the Division I All-Southwest Ohio Team.

Hailey also earned second team Division I All-State honors in Ohio.

As a junior, Hailey averaged 17.8 ppg and 5.6 rebounds per contest for the Cardinals. Hailey finished her career as Colerain’s all-time leader in both field goal percentage (.650) and free throw percentage (.770).

“Quanita is an outstanding athlete, and she has excellent basketball skills,” NKU head coach Nancy Winstel said. “She has spent two years away from playing competitive basketball, but she is an outstanding prospect who has a chance to really help our program.”

Hailey will join an NKU team that posted a 26-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II national championship game. The Norse, who have reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight four times in the past five years, return two starters from last season and have added eight newcomers to the roster in 2003-04.
