NKU DEFEATS UM-ST. LOUIS, 84-63

Livingstone scores 17 points as Norse improve to 22-3

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Heather Livingstone scored 17 points and had three steals Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 84-63, in Regents Hall.

Michelle Cottrell added 13 points and eight rebounds as NKU (22-3, 16-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) extended its Regents Hall winning streak to 24 consecutive games. The Norse have not lost at home since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 victory over NKU.

NKU built a 40-17 halftime lead by limiting Missouri-St. Louis (14-11, 10-9 GLVC) to 24.1 percent shooting from the field. The Norse led by as many as 30 points in the second half and coasted to the win.

Julie Cowens added 10 points and six rebounds for NKU, which is ranked No. 8 nationally in the Division II poll. The Norse are ranked No. 2 in the latest Great Lakes Region poll. Michigan Tech is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region.

The Norse will close out their 2000-01 home season at 1 p.m. Saturday against Quincy (Ill.) University. NKU will play its first GLVC Tournament game next Wednesday (Feb. 28) at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind. The times and seeding for the GLVC Tournament will be announced this Sunday night (Feb. 25).

NKU is the two-time defending champion of the GLVC Tournament.
