HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Amy Mobley scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Wednesday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Brescia (Ky.) University, 71-54, in Regents Hall. Bridget Flanagan added 16 points as the Norse improved to 19-4 overall. Elizabeth Burrows finished with nine points, six rebounds and four assists for NKU, which remained unbeaten at home this season (13-0). The Norse are 39-2 in Regents Hall during the past three years. NKU has won 17 straight at home, with the last defeat a 72-59 setback against Bellarmine on Jan. 19, 2002. NKU, which is ranked No. 21 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, shot 60 percent from the field in the second half to break open a close game. The Norse also made 7 of 9 attempts from three-point range in the second half and finished 11 of 20 from beyond the arc. Misty Fenwick scored 13 points for Brescia, which dropped to 19-9. The Bearcats, who are ranked No. 16 nationally in the NAIA poll, made just 38.3 percent of their shots from the field. NKU will meet Great Lakes Valley Conference leader University of Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Regents Hall in a battle for first place in the league standings. NKU is 14-3 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis is 14-2. The Greyhounds will visit Bellarmine University on Thursday before playing NKU on Saturday. If NKU defeats Indianapolis, the Norse could possibly wrap up the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament by winning their final two games of the season at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Feb. 27) and Lewis University (March 1). Quincy University is currently in third place in the GLVC standings and will likely be the tie-breaker in the event NKU and Indianapolis finish tied in the GLVC. NKU swept Quincy this year, while Indianapolis and the Lady Hawks split the season series. |
