Norse senior has career day with 20 points, 18 rebounds

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Jessica Brock scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a career-best 18 rebounds Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Lewis University, 65-58, in Regents Hall.

Brock, a senior forward playing in her final game in Regents Hall, also connected on four three-point field goals as NKU improved to 15-7 overall, 10-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. She was 5-for-8 from the field and made all six of her free throw attempts.

The Norse limited Lewis to just 33.3 percent from the field and avenged an early-season loss to the Flyers at Romeoville, Ill. NKU also used 21-of-23 shooting from the free throw line to hold off Lewis.

NKU led by as many as 17 points in the first half and took a 34-18 advantage at the break. Lewis, however, used an 8-0 run to start the second half and closed within 34-26 when Bryanne Callahan hit a three-pointer.

Callahan’s basket with 9:05 remaining cut NKU’s lead to 42-36, but Karmen Graham and Brock each hit three-pointers to extend the Norse’s advantage to 48-39.

Brittany Diener’s layup with 2:23 left on the clock brought Lewis within six points at 58-52, but Brock sealed the victory for NKU by draining a three-pointer at the 1:38 mark that gave the Norse a 61-52 advantage.

Karmen Graham added 11 points and nine rebounds for NKU, which won the rebounding battle by a 50-26 margin. Sharell Snardon finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Norse, who lead the all-time series with Lewis, 34-4.

Callahan led Lewis (13-10 overall, 10-6 GLVC) with 15 points. The Flyers have lost four straight games.

NKU will travel to Rensselaer, Ind., this Thursday for a 7 p.m. game at Saint Joseph’s College.
