HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Bridget Flanagan scored 22 points Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 87-62, in Regents Hall. Amy Mobley added 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for NKU, which improved to 17-4 overall, 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU remained unbeaten at home this season (11-0), and the Norse are 37-2 in Regents Hall during the past three years. NKU has won 15 straight at home, with the last defeat a 72-59 setback against Bellarmine on Jan. 19, 2002. Mobley scored 14 points in the first half as NKU built a 47-33 lead at the break. The Norse shot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half and held Southern Indiana (7-15 overall, 5-10 GLVC) to just eight rebounds during the first 20 minutes. Flanagan - who finished with a career-high 31 points earlier this season during a 98-82 win at Southern Indiana - scored 15 points in the second half as NKU led by as many as 30 points. The Norse won the rebounding battle by a 41-25 margin and led the entire game. Africa Sherrod scored 14 points to lead Southern Indiana, while Shannon Wells added 11 points. Connie Myers, Elizabeth Burrows and Sharell Snardon each finished with 10 points for NKU, which is ranked No. 21 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Norse are also ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll. The top eight teams in that poll will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament in March, with the No. 1 seed hosting the entire regional. NKU will play host to Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. Saturday. |
