NKU DEFEATS SOUTHERN INDIANA, 61-48
Norse (24-2) extend winning streak to 16
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Freshman forward Amy Mobley scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team won its 16th consecutive game with a 61-48 victory over the University of Southern Indiana at the Physical Activities Center.
Junior guard Michele Tuchfarber added 11 points as NKU improved to 24-2 overall, 19-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. In addition to its current 16-game winning streak, NKU has now won 19 straight road games against GLVC opponents dating back to last season. The Norses last loss on the road against a GLVC team came on Dec. 5, 1998, when SIUE posted a 62-61 victory against NKU.
The Norse (ranked No. 4 nationally in the WBCA Division II poll) have clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament that begins on March 1. NKU will play No. 8 seed Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne in the first round on March 1 at 9:30 p.m. (EST).
NKU, which is ranked No. 1 in the latest Great Lakes Region rankings, is also hoping to host the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament. Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced March 5.
The top six teams in the Great Lakes Region poll will qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. The No. 1 team in the Great Lakes Region will earn the right to host the event.
