Cottrell named GLVC Player of the Week |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky Universitys Michelle Cottrell has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season. Cottrell, a graduate of Boone County High School, averaged 19.5 points, 16.0 rebounds and led the unbeaten Norse (7-0) to victories over Kentucky Wesleyan College and the University of Southern Indiana. Cottrell, a senior forward, started the week with 20 points and 14 rebounds as NKU defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 81-73, on Thursday. She came back on Saturday to score 19 points and grab 18 rebounds as NKU defeated defending GLVC champion Southern Indiana, 81-71. Cottrell also scored the go-ahead basket with 5:53 remaining in the game against USI and NKU never trailed again. It was the 41st career double-double for Cottrell, who now has 1,851 points. She needs just 33 points to pass Peggy Vincent (1,883 points) and become NKUs all-time career scoring leader. Her numbers for the week: 39 points (19.5 ppg), 15 of 25 field goals (60.0 percent), 9 of 14 free throws (64.2 percent) and four steals (2.0).
