NKU EXTENDS HOME STREAK TO 29

Unbeaten Norse (6-0) post 81-73 win over KWC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Michelle Cottrell scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 81-73, in Regents Hall.

It was the 40th career double-double for Cottrell, who now has 1,832 career points. She needs just 52 points to pass Peggy Vincent (1,883 points) and become NKU’s all-time career scoring leader.

Bridget Flanagan added 16 points for NKU (6-0, 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference), which has won 29 consecutive home games. The Norse have not lost at home since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 win against NKU in Regents Hall.

Amy Mobley scored 13 points and had three assists for NKU, and Kristin Polosky scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. NKU leads the all-time series with Kentucky Wesleyan, 36-3. NKU owns a 18-0 record in Regents Hall against the Panthers.

NKU will meet defending GLVC champion University of Southern Indiana at 5:30 p.m. Saturday night in a conference showdown in Regents Hall. USI (7-2, 4-1 GLVC) defeated NKU twice last season, but both games were played in Evansville, Ind. The Lady Eagles did not visit Regents Hall last season.
