Mobley scores 1,000th career point as Norse roll |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Amy Mobley scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Monday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Wayne (Mich.) State University, 96-64, in Regents Hall. Mobley, a senior forward and a graduate of Harrison (Ohio) High School, also became the 19th player in Norse history to reach 1,000 career points when she converted a layup in the first half. Mobley - who also added six assists Monday night - now has 1,013 career points at NKU. Connie Myers added 16 points and nine rebounds for NKU (7-2), which is ranked No. 18 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Norse shot 60 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle by a 55-33 margin to roll past the Warriors (4-5). NKU built a 52-33 halftime lead as Mobley scored 14 points and Bridget Flanagan added 13 of her 15 points in the first half. Flanagan made a trio of three-point shots in the opening 20 minutes. NKU used a 23-2 run to extend a 23-22 lead to an 46-24 advantage with 4:08 remaining in the first half. Six different players scored for NKU during that spurt. Kristin Polosky finished with six points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Norse, while teammate Elizabeth Burrows had 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Wayne State - which attempted 39 three-point shots - was led by Jodi Youngs 25 points. NKU will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. game at the University of Indianapolis. The Norse are 3-1 in the GLVC. |
