NKU EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 33 |

No. 1 Norse post 89-72 win over Ferris State |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Michelle Cottrell scored 21 points Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Ferris State University, 89-72, in Regents Hall. Heather Livingstone added 19 points and four assists as top-ranked NKU improved to 9-0. NKU has now won 33 consecutive games dating back to last season. The Norse have not lost since Jan. 8, 2000, when Bellarmine posted a 76-72 win against NKU in Regents Hall. The 33-game winning streak is the longest in the nation. Michele Tuchfarber scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for NKU, which built a 45-30 halftime lead. The Norse led by as many as 22 points in the second half and coasted to the victory. NKU has not lost at home to a non-conference opponent since Dec. 30, 1997, when Oakland (Mich.) posted a 74-66 victory against the Norse in Regents Hall. Since that defeat, NKU has gone 12-0 against non-conference teams in Regents Hall. NKU will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play next Thursday night (Jan. 4) when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville visits Regents Hall at 5:30 p.m. After that game, NKU will travel to Evansville, Ind., on Jan. 6, for a showdown with unbeaten Southern Indiana at 6:15 p.m.
