NKU HITS ROAD FOR LEWIS, UW-PARKSIDE

Norse look to rebound from loss to Quincy

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will hit the road for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games this weekend, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. Thursday contest at Lewis University.

NKU will conclude the road trip Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU dropped a 76-59 decision to Quincy University this past Monday in Regents Hall. The Norse are 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC.

Jessica Stuckman scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds Monday night to lead Quincy past NKU. Lindsay Anderson and Lisa Farrell each added 15 points for Quincy, which snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC. It was also Quincy’s first-ever road victory against NKU, which owned a 7-0 record in Regents Hall against the Lady Hawks prior to Monday's loss.

Quincy forced 10 NKU turnovers in the first half with its full-court pressure and took a 31-26 lead at the break. Anderson scored eight points for the Lady Hawks before halftime, while Farrell added seven points in the first half.

In the second half, Quincy shot 56.7 percent from the field and coasted to the victory. The Lady Hawks led by as many as 18 points and never trailed in the second half.

Nikki Perkins scored 16 points for NKU, which made just 39.6 percent of its shots from the field and finished with 19 turnovers. Sharell Snardon scored eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds for NKU, and Jessica Brock added 10 points.

STREAK ENDS FOR SNARDON: Sharell Snardon’s double-figure scoring streak ended at 14 games during Monday's loss to Quincy. Prior to Monday, the last time Snardon did not score in double figures was Feb. 19, 2003, when she was held to six points against Brescia (Ky.).

Snardon leads NKU in scoring (16.6 points per game) and rebounding (11.8 rebounds per game). She is also shooting 56.5 percent from the field.

ABOUT LEWIS: The Flyers are 3-3 overall after posting an 81-68 road win over Saint Joseph's on Monday. Lewis is 1-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers are led by freshman forward Darcee Schmidt, who averages 13.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST LEWIS: On March 1, 2003, Amy Mobley scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds as NKU posted an 81-59 victory over Lewis at the Neil Carey Arena. Mobley also added five assists and three blocked shots for NKU.

Sharell Snardon came off the bench and made all seven of her field goal attempts and finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Mobley scored 18 points in the first half as NKU built a 46-22 lead at the break. The Norse - who trailed 7-0 early in the game - limited Lewis to just 22.5 percent shooting from the field in the first half. Snardon scored 10 points in the second half as NKU increased its lead to 31 (74-43) with six minutes remaining. The Norse shot 47.4 percent from the field and made 24 of 38 free throws.

Connie Myers added a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) for NKU. Jessica Brock finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for NKU, and Bridget Flanagan added 10 points and five assists. Kristin Polosky tied an NKU single-game record with seven blocked shots against Lewis as the Norse set a school record with 12 blocks as a team.

STREAK AGAINST LEWIS: NKU has defeated Lewis 10 consecutive times dating back to the 1997-98 season. NKU leads the all-time series with Lewis, 33-3.

Lewis has not beaten NKU since Feb. 14, 1998, when the Flyers posted a 58-40 win against the Norse at the Neil Carey Arena.

UW-PARKSIDE UP NEXT: NKU will visit Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday at Kenosha, Wis. Last season, the Rangers defeated NKU at home by a 75-73 score in overtime. That was the first time in history Wisconsin-Parkside defeated NKU in women's basketball.

NKU leads the all-time series with Wisconsin-Parkside by a 16-1 margin, and the Norse defeated the Rangers twice in three meetings last season.
