NKU WINS COMMUNITY RECORDER CLASSIC

Myers leads Norse to Community Recorder Classic title

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Connie Myers scored a career-high 24 points Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Carson-Newman College, 79-68, in the championship game of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall.

Myers made 12 of 14 shots from the field and also finished with five rebounds for NKU, which improved to 6-2. It marked the fourth time this season that Myers has scored at least 20 points in a game.

The Norse shot 61.2 percent from the field and hit 10 of 21 three-point attempts. NKU connected on 68 percent of its shots in the second half to pull away from Carson-Newman, which made just 40 percent of its field goal attempts during the final 20 minutes.

Amy Mobley added 17 points and five rebounds for NKU, which is ranked No. 18 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Mobley, a senior forward and a graduate of Harrison (Ohio) High School, now has 989 career points with the Norse.

Bridget Flanagan scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half as NKU built as much as a 16-point lead before coasting to the victory. Flanagan, a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, made four three-point field goals in the game and has now scored 937 career points.

Kristin Polosky added 12 points for NKU and joined Myers, Mobley, Flanagan and Elizabeth Burrows on the All-Tournament Team. Myers was the All-Tournament Team’s top vote-getter.

Kedrin Madar led Carson-Newman (4-4) with 13 points.
