HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Tasha Watt scored 13 points and had nine rebounds Friday night as the Delta State University womens basketball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 64-51, in the championship game of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall. NKU (8-1) - which entered the game ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - made just 25 percent of its shots from the field and missed all 14 of its three-point attempts. The loss ended NKUs home win streak at 31 consecutive games, which dated back to Jan. 8, 2000 and was the longest current streak among NCAA Division II schools. Michelle Cottrell entered the game needing 13 points to pass Peggy Vincent (1,883 points) as NKUs all-time career scoring leader. She broke the record with 7:34 remaining in the game in the middle of an NKU rally that would cut a 16-point Delta State lead to five, but she fouled out two minutes later. Cottrell finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The senior forward now has 1,886 career points. Cottrell, Kristin Polosky and Connie Myers were named to the All-Tournament Team from NKU. Polosky scored 11 points and added 15 rebounds in the loss to Delta State, and Myers scored 16 points and collected nine rebounds in NKUs 88-52 opening-round win over the University of Alabama-Huntsville before suffering a knee injury late in that game. Megan Teel of Delta State - who made a tournament-record nine three-point shots on Thursday against Florida Southern College - was the top vote-getter on the All-Tournament Team. She finished with 11 points against NKU.
