Norse post win in opening round of Community Recorder Classic |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Connie Myers scored 20 points Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Concordia (N.Y.) College, 99-39, in the first round of the Community Recorder Classic in Regents Hall. Myers, a sophomore post player, made 8 of 14 shots from the field and finished with five rebounds for the Norse. Amy Mobley added 17 points and 12 rebounds for NKU (5-2), which is ranked No. 18 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Mobley, a senior forward and a graduate of Harrison (Ohio) High School, now has 972 career points at NKU. She is looking to become just the 19th player in Norse womens basketball history to join the 1,000-point club. The Norse built a 48-23 halftime lead by holding Concordia to 31 percent shooting from the field. Myers scored 16 points in the first half to lead NKU, while Sharell Snardon came off the bench and added eight points and six rebounds before halftime. NKU limited the Clippers to just 23.1 percent shooting from the field in the second half and finished with a 55-27 rebounding advantage. Snardon finished with a career-high 16 points and 12 rebounds for NKU, which made 52.2 percent of its shots from the field. Kristin Polosky added 15 points for NKU, while Bridget Flanagan finished with 11 points. NKU will meet Carson-Newman College - a 69-58 winner over Northwood (Mich.) University on Friday - in the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Carson-Newman enters Saturdays game with a 4-3 record. NKU has met Carson-Newman just once in womens basketball, and the Norse posted a 93-65 win over the Eagles two years ago in Regents Hall. Concordia will play Northwood in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. |
